The 1997 NATIONAL YOUTH MUSIC THEATRE'S production of BUGSY MALONE, ran for three sell out months at The Queens Theatre in London's West End. The production starred Michael Sturgess and Bobby Bethell as Bugsy, Paul Lowe as Fat Sam, Sheridan Smith as Talula, Stuart Piper as Dandy Dan and Matthew Fraser Holland as Knuckles. Other cast members included Jamie Bell (Billy Elliot), Marc Pickering (Sleepy Hollow), Hannah Spearritt (S Club 7), Ben Barnes (Prince Caspian), Michael Jibson, (The Bank Job). Many other stars of the future appeared in it too.

The production began its life at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 1996 gaining rave reviews and securing a West End transfer.

The production was co directed by Jeremy James Taylor and Russell Labey, and choreographed by Kay Shepperd for the National Youth Music Theatre.
