The halibut weighed 58.5 lbs, not 62 lbs as in Julian Strange's script. And the bait was a whole squid, not a cuttlefish! My halibut was the second heaviest landed in British waters at the time - the record was another Orkney fish of 70 lbs from Rackwick Bay, Hoy in 1967, captured byJack Scott of Stromness, the same day as I took a new Scottish Record ling of 33 lbs.
Thank you BEA (British Airways) for flying us there for the filming 43 years ago this month.
I dedicate this programme to my angling companion and life-long friend Michael Prichard ARPS who shared so many fishing and filming exploits with me over the years.
