Shame-attacking exercise that is used in REBT and CBT in order to reduce social anxiety and help to decrease level of shyness. A banana is attached to a string and "walked" around a public place. This makes the client feel more comfortable in very uncomfortable situations. (It's also HILARIOUS to video tape and to watch people's reactions to what you are doing) hahahah

  • That would probably have been a good video if it had filmed with an actual video recorder, not a phone's camera. This is too jittery, it makes me feel dizzy :)

  • @connaultnicolas I'm sorry! It was a digital camera...but my little cousin was filming it and she was laughing hysterically and trying to run to catch up with me so it wasn't the best quality. lol

  • i was thinking about singing in public. would probly help if i actually did it lol

  • @Slingzen do itttttt. let me know if it works for you =)

  • When you have social anxiety you think people will immediately notice you and laugh or point at you (prediction). By forcing yourself to do this, you invalidate your prediction as the outcome will typically be that people did not really care about what you are doing. This, in theory, will eventually help you to overcome your "fear" as your idea of what was going to happen changes (cognitive restructuring).

  • The last man says: Scuse me, scuse me, that banana is following you.

  • The next step is to talk to the banana, tickle it and give it some treats :)
