60 km Autobahn --- no cars ! ---- only pedestrians and non-motor vehicles!
And a 60 km long table ( world record ! )
This video contains some seconds of my april 2010 - A40 video, driven with a car, only to compare the sights. Cycling is by far better !

  • Seems like a useless, wasteful event. I really don't get why anyone would think it was worthwhile shutting down a highway for absolutely no gain. What's the point in this other than one big, laughable demonstration?

  • @ChallengeDK

a demonstration? what for, or against what? There were no protesters along the entire way.

The thing was: the people around this autobahn, dont like this autobahn. And they were happy to use it in different way one day.

The detour on the A42 wasn´t congested that day, so it had only positive effects.

Nearly all visitors wanted that event periodic in the next years.

  • ohh man, i wish i was there, too! Is it again next year? or is somewhere else any autobahn closed?

  • @TheMisterG92

it was planed as a once-a-liftime event

but maybe after that success (1 million awaited, 3 million came) the 8km northern A42 could be closed in 2012

  • so flat for bicycles. I wish Ankara was like that..

  • Yes, there was traffic jam with bicycles. But on a busy day there are 100'000 to 130'000 car in 24 hours on the whole width. On this day it was 1'000'000 bicycles in eight hours using only half the width. Bicycles are so much more advanced than automobiles in terms of space usage.

Think about it. Where space is rare, it might be a wrong idea to exclude bicyclists from all connections that allow short travel times.

  • @ChallengeDK Calm down! Its just a public festival and its done just for fun. :-)

  • Nice to see these images after the disaster of "Loveparade" in the city of Duisburg,

  • @TaGaMeMNoN1983 If I know Europe well, this is done to show how incredibly committed the city is to the environment and being anti-automobile. One big, stupid, feel-good, irrational demonstration by the city and the millions of gullible citizens who ignorantly goes along, thinking they're doing good by supporting. Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but it seems soooo typical Europe to me.

  • @TheMisterG92 I'm sure they would be able to arrange that kind of festival in other designed-for-that-purpose venues or commons.

You can't invest lost money, just for the record :)

  • @ChallengeDK

well, i´m not sure but the money you lose with closing the highway will be kind of a good investion. the festival itself makes a lot of money and with millions of people coming to such an event, the tourismrate will rise(even in the future), which will bring a lot of the money back!

  • @TaGaMeMNoN1983

I guess I´ll visit it FOR SURE!
