  • @bopkick5 Back then, and I was around back then, we had so much less crime and hatred because we loved, and loved, and loved, and songs and performances like this inspired us to love and we did not have time to fight. We went to concerts, like Shady Grove in Maryland, and we enjoyed the best performers and we were in love; we respected our ladies; we opened the car doors for them; we NEVER disrespected them - God, I wish for those good old days!

  • That's My Mama brought me here.

  • One existence, shall we say, has hit the dislike button! Aiming to be original? They failed miserably!

  • @smengleur love your analogy. Its so apt!

  • @foomboom2 There isn't one for obvious reasons. There is nothing to dislike

I'll be 75 Jan'4th but I still enjoy listening to the Oldies.Brings back memories of my mis-spent youth. Have a great year in 2012

    Ah, yes--"Young people today."

But are they really that different. Not to me. Of course there are differences, but my father that that my young values were crazy, and do too many fathers.

Young people need to find themselves just as we needed to. However, some of us were not permitted to find themselves because of the excessive pressures of narrow minds and the church. Love to you all.

I can appreciate your nostalgia. I, too, was around then. I was a fan of Billy, and even wore Billy Eckstine collars on my shirts. I saw him perform at the Palomar Theater in Seattle. However, wasn't that the period right after a world war when we were "enjoying " extreme inflation, product shortages, soon to be followed by the divisive "McCarthy" era and "Cold War" when hatred of those different from us was the mode? The past often looks better after cataracts set in.

  • @millsbrothers ...Superior to all others

  • So refreshing to hear the old songs and a singer with a velvet voice, takes me back to the good old days,
