There was a strong pacifist feeling at the time this film was made, in Britain and the USA, as this film's opening scenes clearly show.
Of course, by Christmas 1940 (when this supposedly is happening), the war in Europe had already been going on for over a year, having started in Sept. 1939.

@transformersHD2009 : This nonsense started in 1933, got a jump-start on THANKSGIVING weekend of 1963 and went full-blown in August of 1971. I'm counting on it being reversed in November. No drama, just the election of an AMERICAN president. Then, we'll see who's who and what's what.

@jeanie58 : And the opposite of "Illuminati"(a Latin word)is "Obscurati"(people of the DARKNESS). And people of the darkness DON'T (CAN'T)rule MY life. Those among us who seek truth ARE the Illuminati. Keep going, you're on the right track. ;])

The fascinating is that there was no data on air-war effects in 1936. Everyone assumed that a nuclear-style 'knock about blow' could be delivered with a few days of air-raids. They reckoned daily death tolls in the tens of thousands. This was why appeasement was so strong, and you can't really blame them despite how wrong it was. Hence also the call of NWO, Well's thought it civilisation's last hope. Orwell had a different theory, of course. Great filmmaking anyway, if a bit prone to speeches.

Brilliant Movie made in 1936 events of WAR in 1940 strangely coincidental to what we know as History.

How he predicted ww2 in 1940 is beyond me. Either pure luck, or he took current events unfolding in 1936 into account and calculated the possibility of world war in a matter of a few years. In 1902, he wrote a book about air warfare. Air warfare would not be seen for the first time untill ww1. (1914-1918) He was trully a seer of the future.
wow, i cant even watch an old movie on the net without being stalked by NWO nuts; go and watch alex jones you paranoid nut.

Yes, the similarities between fiction and reality are quite amazing really.
