On Thursday 23 June, Demos and the Open Society Institute hosted a debate on solidarity and diversity, addressing whether diversity strengthens or threatens open societies.

Featuring Douglas Murray, Shamit Saggar and Zaiba Malik, and chaired by Trevor Phillips, this event focused on the effects of immigration on open societies and liberal values.

  • Diversity=Genocide of Europeans.

  • There are currently just under 1 million British youth unemployed in the UK - and this panel merely perpetuates the usual stereotype "that they're lazy" for their justification of an influx of 30,000 per month illiterate third world immigrants - rather than avoid a mass backlash from national citizens/ a populist reaction - why not try and address the underlying issue of a complete decline in pay levels, job quality & security afflicting such sectors such as healthcare that attract migrants.

  • I dont understand why it is only those states currently under the process of 'trade bloc amalgamation' that seem to be under the 'threat' of MASS immigration; if mass immigration is your best answer to an ageing population/need for more fruit pickers then I dont know how you ended up on that panel. Japan has similar age demographics and an ageing population yet is no way near as diverse as the UK - diversity is not a panacea Britain can do without 30,000 cleaners a month entering.
