Tuna Canyon run in a stock 2006 Scion xA. We had a deer pace us for a bit. The camera work sucks, because the dash was used as a steadying device. Not wise on this road.

NOTE: Run time was 6 min 6 seconds including a 20 second bit at the end. Video was altered to match the length of the song.

NOTE #2: My brakes failed immediately after the deer. They were superheated from braking on the suicide straight, and I had expected to engine brake for a bit. The deer changed that, and the brakes failed. The rest of the run was done via engine braking. The brakes started holding again near the end of the run.

  • I can't believe your brakes held up till then, my Evo's brakes barely lasted the whole run. Then again evos have kinda shitty rotors...

Bravo for making a video that accurately represents what its like to drive here, not one of those super smooth ones.

  • Stick shift, I typically downshift and let the engine slow me so as not to heat the brakes all to hell. The deer sorta screwed that up for me on that run :)

I felt bad for the guy holding the camera. He'd never been down before.

  • What song did you use?

  • Spiderbait - Black Betty

  • my friends clutch gave out at the end im going down that canyon again tomorrow

  • Nice cyn drive man. yeah i feel ya on the brakes fading. in fact, in my car my front rotors actually warped from constant canyon driving, with 3 other guys in the car lol. not good for a 93 lexus es300

  • Actually, that's an incorrect assumption. If the brakes overheated, the removing material from the brake disc (drilling and/or slotting) will result in less material to soak up and dissipate the heat created from the brakes, causing higher likelihood of overheating without a substantial upgrade in brake size.

From the sounds of it, you just need DOT4 or DOT5 brake fluid and maybe some nicer pads to get rid of fade issues. Drilled/slotted rotors are a horrible idea.

  • are you gonna upgrade to slotted brake disc's, that will elminate the braking problem

  • i like this video and the song is great

  • Nice job speeding up the frames.

  • why are u drving here, live up there?
