Riki Ott, Ph.D., Marine Biologist, Toxicologist, Author
Gulf Oil Disaster Public Talk and Forum
Tallahassee FL 7/21/2010
Dr. Riki Ott gave a presentation on marine oil disasters and their long term effects, then facilitated a positive public forum with the people present, in order to help their efforts to expand their community action plan.
Wednesday, July 21, 2010, 7:00 pm at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 2810 North Meridian Drive, Tallahassee.
Dr. Ott has a degree in marine toxicology with a specialty in oil pollution. She became a marine biologist, but chose to make her living in commercial fishing in Alaska.
Just four years later, in 1989, the Exxon Valdez spilled millions of gallons of oil into Prince William Sound. She was there when the local economy, communities, and thousands of miles of environment were devastated. And then ignored.
She experienced first-hand the horrific effects of the Exxon Valdez oil spill -- and chose to do something about it. She is the author of two books on the subject. Now she has come to the Gulf Coast to volunteer her time and actively assist with the oil disaster.
She has been featured in this role on CNN, Democracy Now!, and other news media as she travels around the Gulf Coast during this crisis.
