@Surfakingdom Oh my goodness we are beating a dead horse here. Wind direction as in North, South, East, West, least confusing.......AGREED!

@surfcrs If I walked up to another and said "Hey dude, that surf looks killer, that wind is helluv ONSHORE!"
Ya they would look at me crazy and call me a fuckn kook. Who doesn't know shit and talks like a dumb haole.
If the ignorant calls a pencil a "pen" does that make it the correct term because they all call it that?
If foreigners say "Fuck you" thinking it means Hi does that make them correct because they all think it does?
If Burger King calls a grape stuffed pie, "Apple pie".............

@surfcrs When you post surf reports you shouldn't describe the wind directions by Onshore or Offshore. That's amateur. You describe the winds direction by North, South, East, West, and everything in between. Its simple, clear, and causes no confusion.
Example say if your break is to the West. The surf report says East winds, you then know the winds are coming from the land meaning onshore winds. If the surf report says West winds you know its coming from the sea meaning offshore winds.

@Surfakingdom Look at it this way. The wind blows "off "(away from) the "shore" (landmass). I'm just saying that if you walk up to any surfer and say something like "Hey dude, that surf looks killer, that wind is helluv ONSHORE!", they will look at you like your crazy. They way I'm using offshore is a common frame of reference to describe the surf conditions. If I post a surf report describing ONSHORE wind conditions, surfers will think I'm saying the wind is blowing towards the beach.

@surfcrs What are you talking about? Go ahead call the sky red and the earth flat, but me sir I will not. I live in reality. You can live in your own fantasy world and think that. I rather live in reality.
I don't see how that is relevant here and why you said it.
Ignorance is bliss. Maybe that's why you believe off the shore winds comes from on the shore. If you can't see the contradiction in that...............You are blind and will never see the truth. Im done here. Good day sir.

@surfcrs You have to come to an understanding yourself. Don't just accept anything told to you. Authority is not power. Knowledge is power. That goes for me to, don't automatically accept what I say. Take it in and come to a understanding. Be rational though.
The truth lies within the world wide statement: "Winds are labeled by the area from which they originate."That is not my definition. That is how winds are classified.
A West wind is not called a East wind just because it blows to the East.

"Any fool can know. The point is to understand"
This proves my point:
"A: Winds are designated by the area from which they originate."
If winds are designated by the area from where they originate then a sea-breeze is a offshore wind because it ORIGINATES "OFF SHORE". It originates at SEA. So therefore Sea-breeze wind=Offshore wind. In which they both blow onto the land from the sea/offshore.
Be logical. Think for yourself. You accept it as the truth when it clearly isn't. Do not be misinformed.

@surfcrs I didn't say living in Hawaii automatically makes me an expert. You said to take up surfing. I just said I live in Hawaii meaning I already surf.
You got your information from misinformed websites. This exactly proves my point. People are misinformed then they misinform other people then they make another website misinforming other people and so on. It just builds up.
Have you not have the ability to think for yourself? Understand yourself? Be rational. Look at whats being said.

Your free to define the world as you want. If you choose to call a blue sky "red", believe the Earth to be flat and only 6,000 years old, and men never went to the moon, that is your business. Unfortunately you haven't made a compelling argument for me to change the title based your singular definition of an offshore wind.

Again, I can't post links on youtube but here is an example from abc7news blog:
Q: From what direction does an "onshore" and "offshore" wind blow?
A: Winds are designated by the area from which they originate. A sea-breeze originates over the ocean and blows onshore to land. The opposite is true for a land-breeze. It originates over the land and blows offshore to the ocean. In order to minimize confusion, you will hear us use onshore and offshore."
