PLEASE do this workout in Korey's honor and post up a COMMENT or a VIDEO RESPONSE with your name, location, time, and version of the workout. We would like to compile a list of thousands of freerunners around the world who have honored Korey through this workout.

Korey Sarvas was a workout fanatic and loved to do flips, so we recently held impromptu workouts at APEX Movement in Boulder, CO and Englewood, CO in his honor. Similar to the CrossFit Hero workouts in which workouts are named after fallen soldiers, we would like to dedicate and name this workout after Korey:

"Korey Sarvas"

For Time:
- 30 back tuck burpees

Modified Versions:
- 30 burpees
- 30 burpee tuck jumps
- 30 back tuck burpees (on trampoline)
- 30 back tuck burpees (off height)
- 30 round off back tuck burpees

22 year old Korey Sarvas was a well-known American freerunner who starred on G4's "Jump City: Seattle" as part of Team Rogue. On Dec. 4, 2011, Korey drowned while attempting to swim across the New River in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

I remember trying to convince Korey Sarvas to compete in the 2010 APEX Movement Invitational. As more of a freerunner, time trials weren't Korey's thing and he was hesitant to enter. Finally, he decided to give it a shot and made it through all the rounds and finished in 3rd. He had no expectations and was just happy to be there with all his new and old friends. It was remarkable to see how well he did despite focusing his training on other things! Everything I remember about Korey was full of jokes, smiles, and a positive, uplifting attitude.

RIP Korey Sarvas!

  • I hope no one else does this to get better at parkour or free-running. This is not a good drill. You will wreck your back flip doing it to failure in this way. In no way can I see this making someone strong or better at any sport or activity other than the drill itself.

  • @jusres You're right and I never said it would make you stronger or better at backflips. It is a metcon workout meaning that it is good conditioning for anyone who already has a solid backflip. We had over 30 people do this and there were no bad crashes or injuries because we all stayed within our limits and took it slow if we felt tired.

  • @DemonDrills Even as "metabolic conditioning" it doesn't make sense though. What is the purpose of conditioning if not to work towards the demands of a sport such as parkour? Anyways sorry if I came off harsh in my first post, but I don't think this is a good demon drill post, and most people do come to this channel looking for parkour specific exercises and workout advice. I know the whole crossfit philosophy revolves around this kind of stuff, but it doesn't make it good.

  • @jusres I pretty much agree. It was more of a fun challenge in honor of a friend than a serious workout. This was the first time doing 30 backflip burpees for all of us and it was a lot of fun but I certainly wouldn't make a habit of conditioning like this.
