A short upload of my English Setter and I at our Pheasant shoot December 2009. I keep telling her she should be on the grouse moor but her owner can't afford it. She doesn't seem too bothered.

  • U'r Orange knew the Pheasant had moved, & was waiting 2 pick up the scent cone & would have found the bird at the edge of the field ready 2 escape AND pinned it, IF u knew how good u'r dog is. U should have circled so u had a clear shot & flushed the bird yourself, knowing where it was by reading your dog's signals when he had it pinned. No need 4 the flushing dog. It takes the pride out of u'r setter. That is why he is so unhappy with u? He telegraphs that 4 all 2 see? He really tries to please

  • It's certainly not wrong to use a flusher with a pointing dog.

Lots of people use flushers with pointing dogs. Plantations do it because it's safer for all concerned to send a dog in to flush the birds instead of a guide. I know folks who use flushers to move woodcock out of nasty briar cover that a man can hardly move in.

Doesn't bother a well trained pointing dog one little bit.

  • wrong to have a flushing dog with a setter
