  • Both. I mix first, but rarely get it exactly right till I see the color it will be next to on the painting.

  • Thanks for the compliment.

I only paint flowers when thay are a part of a portrait. I just love doing people, along with anything that enhances the picture of people.

  • Thanks for the compliments. They make sharing worth while. My hope is that my work will inspire budding artists, and help those who are trying to improve their technique. Most importantly, have fun painting.

  • @thedankinfidel I use mainly sables, but I don't think that information is very usefull. You should be asking more questions about finding out how to train your mind to see and translate shapes in nature into shapes on a canvas. I could use paint rollers and kleenex, and do a nice portrait if I had to.

  • do you mix colors before you put the paint on the canvas or do the colors mix on the canvas as you put them together thanks

  • I like how you take a lot of "liberty" with colours and contrast and don't try to stick to an impossible boring realism. This to me means you are allowing yourself to have fun too. Good job!

  • Master, You are a gift from God !!!

  • WOW! That was fabulous! What a privilege to watch a Master at work. Thank you for sharing this with us.

I favourited and shared on Twitter, etc.

  • @chuckiiman Oil paint can get very expensive, so I advise that you start with certain colors that fit your needs, and slowly add to your pallet as you find colors you can use often. My basic pallet for skin tones is Raw umber, Burnt Umber, Burnt Sienna, Yellow Ocher, Cad Red Light, Sap Green, Cerulean Blue, and Cobalt Blue. Plus, of course, Black & white. You might use this as a starting point, but find other colors that suit you better. There is no perfect pallet for everyone.

  • @irudley Thanks, this really helps. I've been using cotton duck double acrylic titanium primed acid free canvas from Pearl Paint but notice that the paint is being absorbed by the canvas. I've heard that some artists use a gesso to combat the problem but I wasn't sure if you used a gesso because it appears that you don't have that problem. I've been using acrylic but hope to branch out into oil. Do you recommendations as to a oil set or paint I could purchase? Thanks again and great work.
