Hi, and you're right. They didn't name me Traktor. I was born Richard French in California in 1944, then changed my name legally to Arthur Cronos in 1984, and actually made up the name Traktor Topaz to tease my wife at the time. Then, when I wanted a stage name for playing dinner music in restaurants, I just couldn't help myself.

S'funny - when he plays with it vertically his wrist is still quite bent... I think it's good that you're doing an instructional of a very underrated/used technique but I think the playing it vertically thing is a bit of gimmick. Adam Fulara... Stanley Jordan... they seem to be doing just fine playing normally.

Generally, for thin necks, as on strats, and the guitar used by Adam and Stanley's Vigier, then normal position can work well.

However, the further you dip toward horizontal, the less your fingers are aligned with the frets, and the more you have to use your elbow and arm muscles for positioning, which is not nearly as precise as fingers. Try it and you'll see for yourself.

The wrist looks more bent than it actually is in a front shot. But you try it and decide for you.
