A quick guide to some of the main points in the Ofcom broadcasting code. All broadcast journalists need to have a working knowlege of the code so that they can be (1) AWARE of when a news item might be subject to one of the code's many restrictions. They then need to (2) CHECK with the code itself to see what those restrictions might be and then (3) ASK a tutor (or in the workplace an editor) for guidance. This short guide focuses on traditionally troublesome areas like undue prominence and invasion of privacy. The video is a must for all broadcast journalism students and professionals in the UK. The video is produced as part of the journalism law and ethics course at the University of Winchester in the UK. Nothing in this video constitutes legal advice and regulations in juristictions outside the UK are likely to be very different.

  • Why are sections 4 and 9 missing? Otherwise, this is very useful, thank you.
