The ninth season of Smallville is set to premiere on September 25, 2009.[3] Brian Austin Green has been confirmed to portray Metallo for at least two episodes this season,[5] but executive producer Brian Peterson hopes that he will stay on board for more episodes.[6] Callum Blue has also been confirmed to portray Zod as a series regular. His character was first mentioned in season five, when Brainiac used Lex Luthor's body as a physical vessel for Zod's spirit to inhabit.[7] In an interview, executive producers Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders explained that this version of Zod will be different from the one who appeared in prior seasons. The execs classify this incarnation as "Major Zod", as opposed to his typical "General Zod" identifier, and reveal that throughout season nine "the venomous side of Zod rises because he experiences a few key betrayals with our beloved characters".[8] In an interview, Justin Hartley revealed that season nine will partially deal with Oliver having to battle his personal demons: "I think he is going to struggle with the things he has been afforded (as a result of) his powers. He has sacrificed things and done things that haunt him Its bad stuff. We need to get to the bottom of it."[9] Peterson states that season nine will see Clark taking his "Red-Blue Blur" persona into obsessive territory: "He is trying a little too hard to be a hero, and is leaving the rest of his life behind."[8]

Entertainment Weekly's Michael Ausiello revealed that this season will feature major developments to the Clark/Lois relationship,[10] but also that Superman's "iconic 'S'" will be featured significantly throughout the season, including Clark's chest.[11] After an interview with Peterson, Ausiello states that the theme for season nine will be "Clark's darkest hour"; there will be a love-triangle between Clark, Lois, and the Red-Blue Blur that will last for the season; tension will build between Chloe and Clark as the former realizes she is not satisfied just being a "sidekick"; and that the creative team is not "story-wise, approaching this season as Smallville's last". A scene between Clark and Jor-El has been constructed for the premiere to explain why Clark has not learned to fly.[6]

In an interview following the 2009 San Diego Comic-Con International panel for Smallville, Souders and Peterson revealed that Clark will be training to take one-step closer to his ultimate destiny as Superman. The executive producers also stated that DC Comics character Roulette will be making an appearance on the show, portrayed by Steph Song,[12] as well as several other characters, and that Clark would be wearing a costume while performing his Red-Blue Blur duties. The pair explained that not only is this season's theme about "Clark's darkest hour", but also about him "embracing the fact that he is an alien".[13] That said, Souders has stated that she would not refer to Clark himself as "darker", because he is still "the Superman underneath it all that we all know and love".[12]

E! Online's Natalie Abrams revealed, following the Smallville panel, that Clark's suit will be black, with a silver Superman "S" on the front, as well a trench coat that doubles as a cape. Based on the information released at the panel, Abrams reports that Clark and Chloe's relationship will be strained this season, Oliver Queen will "hit rock bottom" this season, the producers have a series finale prepared should this season be the last, Clark and Oliver's friendship will become tense thanks to Oliver's growing interest in rekindling his romantic relationship with Lois, Zod will be bringing multiple Kryptonians to Earth with him, and there is a chance Jor-El may make a physical appearance on the show. Tom Welling will be directing two episodes, Allison Mack will be directing one, and Geoff Johns will return to write an episode featuring the Justice Society of America

Smallville is an American television series developed by writer/producers Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, and was initially broadcast by The WB. After its fifth season, the WB and UPN merged to form The CW, which is the current broadcaster for the show in the United States.[1] Smallville premiered on October 16, 2001, and completed its seventh season on May 15, 2008.[2] An eighth season was officially announced by The CW on March 3, 2008.[3] It is filmed in and around Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

  • @TheYogi2007 That was the Star Spangled Kid, not Captain America. Do you have any idea the massive legal trouble the show would have gotten into if they had used a non DC hero? It would be a disaster!

Think before you call others dumb seeing as just because the guy had stars in his costume you couldn't tell the difference.

  • @Marvinofthe dude I was not complaining about that I know the character from DC is called Skyman or before that is Star Spangled Kid however my complaint was about how the producers portrayed Superman/Clark Kent.

  • @fvillag1 Give them some credit. That is Skyman, formerly known as the Star Spangled Kid, not Captain America

  • wtf... no one noticed????

in the End of the Episode, when they show the Picture of the Old Society Members.....

there is Captain America in the Left Corner...

CA is from Marvel -.- so he never was part of the Justice League, he was part of the Avengers...

Failors, but they get payed quite well therefore their dumb

  • @AFinleyProductions Oh yeah and do you know because it was written by someone from DC and went the comic book universe rather than escaping from it.

  • Could you please tell me the name of this song?

  • The Justice Society!!!!! I'm watching season 6 right now, but I'm looking forward to this. Dr. Fate is awesome.

  • All I have to say is Remember JUSTICE SOCIETY LIVES AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!

  • That episode was awesome compared to the others, seeing many new heroes was cool. I hope they put many effort for Season 10 and make it epic, we want Smallville to end as good as possible. :)
