We renounce greed, hatred and fear, and condemn all violence done in the name of Jesus Christ.
“Where they were motivated by hatred and prejudice, we offer love and brotherhood. Jesus the Messiah came to give life. Forgive us for allowing His name to be associated with death. Please accept again the true meaning of the Messiah’s words:

“On the anniversary of the first Crusade we also carry the name of Christ. We wish to retrace the footsteps of the Crusaders in apology for their deeds and in demonstration of the true meaning of the Cross. We deeply regret the atrocities committed in the name of Christ by our predecessors.

”Nine hundred years ago, our forefathers carried the name of Jesus Christ in battle across the Middle East. Fuelled by fear, greed and hatred, they betrayed the name of Christ by conducting themselves in a manner contrary to His wishes and character. The Crusaders lifted the banner of the Cross above your people. By this act they corrupted its true meaning of reconciliation, forgiveness and selfless love.

Wrong, no philosophy came to Europe through the Arabs, it came through the Byzantines. The Arabs condemned Greek philosophy as evil. Saladin had many Arabs who studied ancient philosophy executed for blasphemy.

Death to all Muslim vermin!

@Metaphreak Look up the wikipedia article on "transmission of the classics", basically the Byzantines held claim over Greece, and over time Christian writings were becoming the dominant force, leading to a slow decline in classical philosophy's relevance. The Church may not have destroyed them, but they were destined to become lost, either by erosion (papyrus) or simply discarded over time.

@Metaphreak Many greek philosophical works were translated into Arabic, it was at a time when such works were claimed as blasphemous across Europe, thus being destroyed. As for what remained in Greece at that time i cannot say, it's a common known fact that Muslims preserved works relating to Philosophy (but perhaps not political philosophy as it would challenge the political establishment of the time).

@Metaphreak That was not intended towards you, the guy who it was intended towards was an ignorant fool. As for the comment itself, it stands. Killing Saracens was not objected by the Church, you can read letters exalting the endless killing of Muslims and Jews in Jerusalem. When the second Islamic Caliph conquered Jerusalem do you know what he did? He declared it a place for all people to worship freely, just as Saladin did when he recaptured it.
-
@Metaphreak I will only continue this conversation if it is to remain civilised. If you are going to hurl ignorant insults and accusations of deceit and falsification against me, then i dont want to waste my time... i'll happily leave you be. But if you are going to be open to my arguments, i shall be open to yours. I am not a man of hate, i cherish knowledge, even if it happens to be against my beliefs. If you hold such views, then i can aswer your question as well as hear your response.

@Metaphreak Christianity is a wonderful religion, much better than Islam, despite outnumbering all other religions in your historical crimes.
Much better than Islam..
Is that what you wanted to hear? Great, i'm glad i made you happy.
