  • Great video. We do alot of fly fishing as well as spin casting steelhead/salmon. Regarding steelhead, we use a 10' to 11'6" graphite spin rod with Suffix camo 8lb main line, slip a snap swivel on the main line (without tying), then tie a barrel swivel to the main line and run your 6 lb Maxima green leader off the other end of your barrel swivel. Tie on a hook (#6 or #8 Lazer Octopus), attach a pencil lead to the snap swivel on your main line (it will self adjust for depth). 4-6 foot leader.

  • @33flyfisher Awesome...thanks for the tip...I'll have to give that a try.

  • Why not just buy a 3 way swivel?

  • @Dustin1989C Its one more swivel.....you'd use one to clip on your weight, and one for your leader in addition to your three way

  • I usually use 3/0 for salmon. 2 of the bigger corkys when I am drift fishing.

  • @nintendude1988 That'll work! I switched to a bigger hook this last weekend while fighting some chum!

  • you should always wet your knot before clinching. You could see a slight kink after he tightened it. I would also suggest using a light weight line for the weight leader. That way if your rig gets hung up, you can easily break it off without losing your intire rig. but great video, I just wish you would have shown how you tied your yarn. I cant make mine look that presentable. Any ideas?

  • @dadon04 Learn to tie egg loop knots for your leaders. Then take the loop open it up and slide your piece of yarn in. The yarn will not slip and will stay on till your leader snaps off. Dont take the past your hook shank. This can cause you to have short strikes. Depending on the river your on and the rules Id add stink on your yarn. Shrimp smelly jelly has been best for steel and silvers for me. When hooking fish close to the salt try herring.

  • @Kestrel707 Exactly! Get rid of the second swivel and attach leader to the barrel of the one swivel. Hook size is good. I go with a #2 or smaller with silvers pinks and steel. I use a 1/0 for kings and chum. I go with only size 14 corkies. Next time pinks are in use orange and orange. Youll hook enough pinks to tickle ya, but the silvers are the big pay off.

  • @ddh162 Ahh I love Chum :) there are two rivers around here with decent runs in the fall, Currently here we cannot keep them but there are so many they make a great sport if you just want to catch some fish :)
