Klonricket, a trick that has always worked for me was: Slide out the keyboard, put the device to sleep, mash the shit out of all the buttons (slide your fingers across all keys, pressing pretty hard), turn back on and give it a try.

Suprised you have such a problem with typing on the vario II, had mine almost 2 years now and the keyboard is still working as well as the day i bought it.

The sensitivity can "go" on them. My network provided will not do anything about it and HTC won't touch it. Rock :O hard place.
