This video was made to say thanks to Tom Blair and the team at http://www.dci.org for putting together the highest quality recording of Drum and Bugle Corps ever!

Mashed together in this video are a couple of segments of Carolina Crown and Blue Devils so everyone can hear the difference in sound between the corps (two distinct sounds), and Holy Name Cadets were on for the parts where I talk, including the end when I describe the Cadets as being angry at the end of one of their numbers. :)

Since digital recording of DCI began, audiophiles have been wishing for access to recordings of the quality of these of DCI corps, mostly because of the large difference in the way the corps sound from real life to traditional DVD or CD recording. The DTS-HD 5.1 on this DCI Blu-Ray is a 4000kbit 48khz stream quality recording, with top notch quality maintained from recording to final output.

The audio in this video is the audio from the Zoom H4N unit, and what it captured was exactly how that room sounds, right down to the slap that you can hear after the claps at the beginning.

Message to Tom and DCI: THANK YOU SO MUCH! My living room is going to sound like this video for quite some time! I've heard some good records of nationals, and the CDs were nice, but this is clearly the best audio recording ever of DCI.

If you've got a High Def TV with a PS3 or Blu Ray Player and some surround sound, please support the development of DCI on Blu Ray and ensure they continue creating these high quality recordings by visiting http://www.dci.org and ordering your copy as soon as possible! There are only 1000 of these bad boys for 2009!

  • Hey, what's the system type and model?

  • made everything sexy i jizzed my pants

  • @who8mahbacon There is no sound like the Phantom Regiment's sound. Watching their show on Blu-ray felt beyond amazing!

  • I bought the 2010 BRD, and I'm still freaking out over the 1080pixel/60fps resolution. I felt like I was watching ESPN2 all over again, only infinitely better.

And that was just from watching it on a PS3 hooked up to a STANDARD definition screen!

I'll get my taste of the FULL HD experience this weekend when I finally buy my Blu-ray player.

  • should have compaired phantom with another sound, because no one has a better sound then phantom

  • Similar to my setup!...Can't possibly live without Blu-Ray now!..I watch it on a Sony XBR9 LCD

  • WOW! That is like being there ! Thanks for sharing! I see a Blu-Ray setup in my future! :->

  • 32x clearer than CD quality? I'd gladly spring for a Blu-Ray player just to watch this in High-Def.

I'm freaking out because I actually have the CD set *bought it upon release*. Thanks for posting this video, dude!

  • Cool!

  • Thanks for sharing. Can I assume that you actually use your recording equipment professionally out in the real world? You certainly give us corps fans amazing quality vids. I think your blueray recording your HD canon are actually better quality than I see on my LCD with the 09 DVD haha.
