Tympani (correst spelling) are DRUMS! To be specific, kettle drums. Incidentally, timpani can be tuned to specific pitches. If only tympani were accompanying this singer (who is fairly good), you wouldn't be hearing the brass, woodwinds, and string instruments that are present. By the way, the tympani are not tuned very well here.

Buffy has a great Carmen voice...needs dark hair to be authentic looking. Brandon will be singing Don Jose at The Met this Jan-Feb!! Can't wait!!!

I remember Buffy from college, and it is wonderful to hear what a great singer she has become--and a femme fatale too!

I hope I amnot breaking any copy rights by watching this but she has a really good voice. By using timpany instead of the cello makes it seam more... I don't quite know but I like it.

This is La Tragedie de Carmen (a one act version of Carmen), so the aria is accompanied by a timpany (I believe) as opposed to the entire orchestra...

hmm strange i didn't know that such version of Carmen exists... And who created this version of Carmen??

This version was musically adapted by Constant and realized by Peter Brook... He created 3 different film versions of the same realization... check it out at IMDB
