Radio y Televisión Martí is a radio and television broadcaster based in Miami, Florida, financed by the United States government (Broadcasting Board of Governors), which transmits Spanish radio broadcasts to Cuba. Its broadcasts can also be heard in the United States.

The United States Information Agency (USIA), which existed from 1953 to 1999, was a United States agency devoted to "public diplomacy." In 1999, USIA's broadcasting functions were moved to the newly created Broadcasting Board of Governors, and its exchange and non-broadcasting information functions were given to the newly-created Under Secretary of State for Public Affairs and Public Diplomacy.

Yugoslavia is a term that describes three political entities that existed successively on the western part of Balkan Peninsula in Europe, during most of the 20th century.

The first country to be known by this name was the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, which before 3 October 1929 was known as the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes. It was established on 1 December 1918 by the union of the State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs and the Kingdom of Serbia (to which the Kingdom of Montenegro was annexed on 13 November 1918, and the Conference of Ambassadors in Paris gave international recognition to the union on 13 July 1922). The Kingdom of Yugoslavia was invaded by the Axis powers in 1941, and because of the events that followed, was officially abolished in 1943 and 1945.

The second country with this name was the Democratic Federal Yugoslavia, proclaimed in 1943 by the Yugoslav Partisans resistance movement in World War II. It was renamed to the Federal People's Republic of Yugoslavia in 1946, when a communist government was established. In 1963, it was renamed again to the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY). This was the largest Yugoslav state, as Istria and Rijeka were added to the new Yugoslavia after the end of World War II. The constituent six Socialist Republics and two Socialist Autonomous Provinces that made up the country, were: SR Bosnia and Herzegovina, SR Croatia, SR Macedonia, SR Montenegro, SR Slovenia and SR Serbia (including the autonomous provinces of SAP Vojvodina and SAP Kosovo who after 1974 were largely equal to the other members of the federation). Starting in 1991, the SFRY disintegrated in the Yugoslav Wars which followed the secession of most of the country's constituent entities.

The last country to bear the name Yugoslavia was the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY) established on March 27, 1992. It was a federation on the territory of the two remaining (non-secessionist) republics of Montenegro and Serbia (including the autonomous provinces of Vojvodina and Kosovo). On February 4, 2003, it was renamed to the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro, and officially abolished the name "Yugoslavia". On June 3 and June 5, 2006 respectively, Montenegro and Serbia declared independence, thereby ending the Yugoslav state. Kosovo declared independence in 2008. Its statehood is, however, still disputed.

  • @kotkee hitchens explains nothing. he is a lickspittle who changes his views every week. if he advocated to bosnia what he advocates for iran or iraq he would be locked up and the key thrown away.

  • At the end he says there are similar factors behind a lot of the problems of International affairs, ANYONE KNOW WHAT THEY ARE??????? Is it IMF conditionalities????

  • While it's true that most people say that they lived better under Tito than today, majority didn't exactly have free access to information, there was loads of propaganda and lies. If you snooped them out and had courage to expose them, you'd be sent to Goli Otok (pretty much a gulag prison).

  • @procommenter Religion is another obstacle. While Hitchens explains religion, Chomsky explains world order.

  • @KraljevicPavle I disagree 100% I speak 5 languages (Serbian,Hungarian,,German,English and Spanish.

I learned each language in the order listed.I tell you I have a better comprehension and ability to articulate English better than my own native tongue.Puno covek zaboravi kad ne pritcam Srpski svaki dan.

  • @ThiefFanatic The civillians of old Yugoslavia can all agree that things were better when we were united and strong instead of balkanized and weak.I would like to see more cooperation in the economic and defense fileds of all Yugoslavs.Michael Parenti, in my view does a better job then Chomsky at identifing and explaining the economic hitjob that lead to fratricide in Yugoslavia.

  • @rgs11 I just wish he had more information on Yugoslavia. We weren't really a third world country at all and our "disctatorship" was a million times better than so called free US democracy

  • @rgs11 Using ad-hominem attacks serves no use in this discussion. However, if you actually discuss what he talks about , I can then take you seriously; until then, your adolescent projections serve no purpose in this discourse.

  • @2pac4life7777 "Chomsky handled it good, however."

Chomsky is the greatest example of a superbly educated and quite brilliant MORON and you are an example of his typical worshiper. All of his pseudo-intellectual drivel amounts to nothing more than a rational for shifting power to a "libertarian" brand of Marxism. I think he's a true-believer but this only blinds him to his own hypocrisy.

  • OZ & THE SWINE FLU HOAX...Why does this doctor promote the mercury-preserved swine flu inoculation? In 2001 SIGA TECHNOLOGIES' board member Mehmet Oz bought 150,000 share options in SIGA TECHNOLOGIES @ $1.35 per share which is $202,500. SIGA is involved in the processing of swine flu inocu-lations. In October of 2009 a share was worth $7.10 which (times 150,000 shares) is $1,065,000. A tidy profit to Oz of $862,500.
