"How strange she is tonight" - Karenin's Aria

David Carlson's brand new opera, "Anna Karenina" with libretto by Sir Colin Graham, based on the novel by Leo Tolstoy.

Near the beginning of the opera, Karenin has just left Princess Betsy's ball with his wife Anna. Her attention to Vronsky has been noted by Karenin and to a much greater extent, by the St. Petersburg social elite. He confronts her, but she manages to dodge the issue, leaving him to reflect on what has changed about her.

Commissioned by Florida Grand Opera, Bob Heuer, General Director. Conducted by Stewart Robertson. Sung by Young Artist Liam Moran. Accompanied by Roberto Berrocal.

The cast was first rate and music was glorious at times. Kelly Kaduce really captures Anna.

For a modern opera this has a recognisible musical form and melody of sorts - which will probably mean the ivory-tower critics will hate it.
