Kris is not gay. the rumor started in early 1990s just because he disappeared from Taiwan(he didn't anounce he was going to China) and Steven Liu decided to be retired and moved to USA. So people in Taiwan guessed they were gay couple. It is just a rumor.
If you look at all his chinese interviews and programs you will know he is not a gay. He used to have 7 girl friends and his last relationship finished in late 1990s.
@Marilimiranda Perhaps moderators should delete comments about him possibly being gay. I would hate to see him accused of a crime in China that he likely did not commit. Even if he had inclinations that way it does not mean that he acted on them.
You made me go to study homosexuality in china with your information, I really did not know much about this and I realize that this is a major flaw of my. I look the situation with my eyes Brazilian.
Kris for me is an artist and being an artist has a different sensibility; know the truth about his sex life would not change my way of acknowledging the importance of their work.
However we need to understand the world he lives so we can better understand the difficulties of their work.
@Marilimiranda It seems to me that he is more than an artist. He is a sort of cultural ambassador. I am really impressed at him going into China, when his home country of Taiwan disapproved, and he did not stand to make much money in China, seemingly because he wanted to improve intercultural communication. I am also really impressed at his leading a large group of Chinese singing "We are the World" in Shanghai this year. That was very moving to see that.
I had a fate with Kris mother; she come to visit me in SF with my friend 1996. She said we had another love in the future...

I have exactly the same impression that you, us Westerners look Kris this way, as a true cultural ambassador.
The Brazilian website believes Kris Phillips as one of the largest representations of the link between east and west.
It has nearly thirty year career, his work was revolutionary in China in a decade, and still manages to make as much success as in youth....
I'll send some links of the Brazilian website and you can translate using the google translation.
