Essentially true story of how Spartan king Leonidas led an extremely small army of Greek Soldiers (300 of them his personal body guards from Sparta) to hold off an invading Persian army more than 20 times as large. The actual heroism of those who stood (and ultimately died) with Leonidas helped shape the course of Western Civilization, allowing the Greek city states time to organize an army which repelled the Persians. Set in 480 B.C.

  • Why the argument? 300 Spartan or 301 Spartan, who cares it happened it shaped what we are today simple

  • The remaining allies were sent home by the Spartans on the third day of the battle, when it became clear that the Persians had outflanked the Greeks.

  • Herodotus; and Blandford: Thermopolae Battle for the West:-

    1. The path used by the Persians was well known.

    2. The path was guarded by the Phocians - not mentioned in the film.

    3. The 900 Helots who died with their masters is not noted

    4. The 700 Thespians died with the Spartans.

    5. Many of the 400 Thebans surrendered.

6.. The two Spartan survivors, Panties and Aristothemus, were held in contempt; so the one hung himself and the other redeemed himself by dying at the battle of Platea.

  • @14067913 : History is not imagination or interpretation but facts.

At the beginning 10,000 soldiers from different city-states joined the Spartans. When Leonidas saw the vast Persian army, he knew the outcome. According to the Spartan way (TAN OR EPI TAN -Return Victorious with it or dead heroe on it (the shield) another traditional way as well)) and asked the rest of the Hellines to return and defend their homes. The 1000 Thespians did not leave but defended their back. The 300 were 300 !

  • @elitespecforce u fail u dont know what ur talking about the spartans had lamalar armor which wss underneathe their chest plates and he had there (hoplon) which was their spear and the xphos which was there sword

  • @BlackSabbathmad Actually the 300 spartans didn't wear any clothing in history apart from their capes. Much better acting in the modern 300 and fight scenes in the modern movie were closer to real then this.

  • The Actual Film Is So Bad...

  • The Greeks actually lost about 10,000 men at this battle. Nobody bothers with the Thespians - far more numerous - who shared the last stand with the Spartans. Nobody bothers with the Thebans who were so frightened of their allies that they waited until the last Spartan died and then surrendered.

  • Well the persisks wasnt more cowardish than the wars are today, and leonidas made a turtle in defense but it's not cowardish it's survivalish!! Shmock...

  • GAY MUCH
