We spent a week in Flagstaff and Navajo Nation highlighting Black Fire, a Navajo (Dine) traditionally-influenced, sibling punk bad that bears strong socio-political messages regarding governement oppression, relocation of indigenous people, eco-ride, genocide, domestic violence and human rights.
In this webisode, we go snow bathing with Clayson on the sacred San Francisco peaks.
The day we left, their coalition, Save the Peaks, lost their court case to the U.S. Forest Service, which will now allow the ski resort, Snowbowl, to use treated sewer water to create snow on the San Francisco peaks. Not only is the site sacred to Native Americans in the SouthWestern United States, the Forest Service has, at best, no idea what the long term health impacts will be on the people who ingest this snow made from treated effluent. The Forrest Service admitted that there was no consideration of the impacts if children consumed wastewater snow that they acknowledge contains untreated contaminants."(pharmaceuticals, hormones, endocrine, disruptors, industrial pollutants, and narcotics)
The Save the Peaks coalition is currently appealing the case. Learn more here: www.savethepeaks.org/
