As the Senate considers S.1348 to allow amnesty for 12 to 20 million illegal aliens and an expanded guest worker program, little thought is being given to the national security implications of these massive programs. The already overloaded and corrupt U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is the agency that would have to administer these programs. A key provision of S. 1348 is that background checks for visa and citizenship applicants be completed within 24 hours, an impossible task even under the best of circumstances. Michael Maxwell, former director of the Office of Security and Investigations at USCIS testifies before a congressional subcommittee that national security is already compromised and that the Senate bill will result in an administrative and national security nightmare.
