This excerpt from that neo-con rag The N.Y Times on the matter Feb 6 , 1990 sheds some light on the process:

Until the 1970's the editors were picked on the basis of grades, and the president of the Law Review was the student with the highest academic rank.. The new system, disputed when it began, was meant to help insure that minority students became editors of The Law Review.

The 1st affirmative action President of HLR to POTUS.

Did they lower the bar for BHO? Yessir!

Seeing I directly quoted The New York Times article, you tell me what bold faced LIE I'm telling?

See your Messiah-In-Chief isn't as smart as his campaign propaganda lead you to beleive.

Maybe that's why his grades are a more closely guarded secret than CIA documents.

If you bothered paying attention, he admits he wasn't the best student in high school. How exactly did he get into Harvard then?

2 words :AFFIRMATIVE ACTION

The Harvard Law Review? Do you know what that is by chance? It's a student paper written by law students. Congratulations. I'd be more impressed if he was the editor of the Harvard Lampoon, because his administration thus far is a joke.

What is it with liberals and school papers. His idol FDR edited the Harvard Crimson. OOOhh Ahhh.

Easily impressed, aren't you?

It's the HARVARD law review you knucklehead. Only the top law students in the world get to be the president of that organization. It doesn't mean he'll have great policies but it means he's a really smart guy, which is a pre-requisite for being president.

Reading comprehention is also the sign of a" smart guy"

What part of they changed the rules in th 1970's where it wasn't grades only that mattered(affirmative action anyone?) but rather decided on voting so it became a popularity contest rather than "smartest guy " wins . All in the name of diversity.

Now using that admittedly watered down accomplishment on your wafer-thin resume is fine for an entry level attornwey, hardly the only criteria for POTUS.

BTW, where are B.O's grades?

Why is it Democrat like to pad their resumes by writing for the school paper?

FDR was the editor of the Harvard Crimson...

He was also admittedly a medicre student.

Now if Obama was president of the Harvard Law Review PRIOR to the criteria changing, then that would be something for then it went to the valedictorian of the law school.

Of course , perhaps Obama was valedictorian, we don't know because the most open administration in U.S history won't release his grades.

Change in Selection System :
Until the 1970's the editors were picked on the basis of grades, and the president of the Law Review was the student with the highest academic rank.
That system came under attack in the 1970's and was replaced by a program in which about half the editors are chosen for their grades and the other half are chosen by fellow students after a special writing competition. The new system
was meant to help insure that minority students became editors of The Law Review.
