How is it possible to deliver public leadership (and regulatory quality) in highly complex and constantly changing environments?
http://www.irr-network.org

The age of globalization has posed many new challenges to governments in the economic, environmental and social arenas. This session will look at the impact of globalization on regulation. In an ever faster, more complex, more international and interdependent world, we still face dangerous hazards. What do these global developments imply for modern government? Can the state still make a difference? Can regulation?

The sessions key questions will include: What are the main challenges to traditional government resulting from globalization? How can we transform systemic thinking into systemic regulation? Do we need new government processes and institutions? Which skills do policymakers need to respond effectively to the challenges of the 21st century? How is it possible to reduce complexity in the policymaking and regulatory processes and remain goal-oriented without falling into the simplicity trap? Is it possible to balance ecological, economic and social sustainability?
