I see absolutely no need to compare Lady Gaga's Born This Way with this record at all. They are years apart, different genres of music.(This is Motown with a Philly flavor, her record is electro-dance).Her record is a universal celebration of individuality and eccentricity;his is the bravest single record ever made about being gay, especially considering when it was released in the seventies.Motown Records is, to me, the greatest label ever,cool/hot/and intolerant not. (btw I like lady G too! )

I don't like how Lady Gaga is doing it. Her message is polluted with pointless hypersexuality, inverse sexism, and consumerism that's obviously injected for record sales, not to deepen or communicate the message of tolerance. There is also no soul in her music or in her monotone vocal performances. I respect her and people who like her, but objectively her music does not even compare to this, whether or not she or the marketing department of her label were "inspired" by it.

To see and hear another human being celebrate who they are is universal. We should celebrate freedom, both our own and that of others. I'm straight, but this song still makes me tear up knowing what it meant for Rev. Bean to come out with this song while gays were still getting beaten in the street and being treated like second class citizens. Real music for real people. One nation under a groove.

Thank you!!! I had a blast dancing to this with straight friends, male and female along with other gay persons. It didn't seem to make a difference who they were but we all giggled. However, I do not miss polyester shirts.

What's wrong that she has been inspired by this song to bring this message to her generation? I am her generation and I didn't know this song before, but Gaga taught me to become gay rights supporter. Thanks to this song for inspiration.
