So you want to buy a car and to do that, you need to get an auto loan. But it seems you have a little issue because at some time in the past, you declared bankruptcy or maybe you're going through bankruptcy right now. And to some lenders and car dealers that means you're like nuclear waste.
But don't despair or lose your cool because that can cause you spend a lot of money with your therapist.
Because the truth is that even if you've got a discharged chapter 13 or are right in the middle of a chapter 7 you can probably still get a car loan. It just may be a little more difficult than if you weren't in bankruptcy.
The first thing you need to do is find a lender or car dealer who specializes in helping people who have bad credit or a bankruptcy on their record. But don't just settle for anyone because you might end up with a real dirtbag who'll tell you things like, "This is the best you can get," and that might just be a lie.
And as mother always said, "Don't lie because you might end up with a big nose!"
So be prepared to make a lot of phone calls to search for the best deal and check out any company you're thinking about doing business with on the web just to make sure.
As part of this process, you really need to re-establish your credit, probably by using a secured or unsecured credit card. They'll have REALLY high interest rates so make sure you pay them off each month or you could get sucked back into the black hole of death by credit, which, as you know, is not a cool place to be.
Once you have a little payment history, it will be much easier to get a car loan. You also want to pick the right car. A $100,000 super charged sports car is probably not right. There you go... that's probably a better choice.
The idea is to get reliable transportation that you can comfortably afford. So though it may not be the car you love, if you can get it at a reasonable rate, it's worth it.
The key in all of this is being patient enough to find the right deal with the right dealer for your situation. At CarLoanMarket.com, we want to help you get an auto loan, even if you're in bankruptcy right now or have gone through bankruptcy in the past.
