Part 2 of the interview on Michael Aspel and Company from 1989. The tape goes a bit wonky for a few seconds but bare in mind its nearly twenty years old. Interesting interview though.

  • you can tell he was having fun with the lip singing. It was a joke doing it. It oviously wasn't his idea

  • i wonder why Billy didn't mention You're Only Human when asked if he ever wrote any songs about his suicide attempt.

  • @mikedemilo

I think the producers might have dubbed over the live recording. Billy wouldn't have signed off on lipsync.

  • I could never stand Bea Arthur. God, she was obnoxious.

  • Is it just me or was the woman sitting next to him a little annoying. She kept interupting him and at times he looked a little bothered by it.

  • Bea from the Golden Girls and Billy joel!!!! OMG, I love them both!!!!

  • It's ridiculous that they made him lip sync... watch him sing live, and you can instantly tell the difference. He tends to scrunch his nose up when he's not singing a slower song. Plus, you can't be that far from a mic (referring to the opening of the first part).

Ah well, it was a great interview, thanks for posting!

  • yeah he isn't a cheap musician and he is making fun of them. He doesn't need to lip sync and he knows it

  • It's so obvious Billy is making fun of the show for having to lip sync. Just watch his arm movement in the beginning of the song :P

  • billy keeps his eyes closed for the most part when he talks about his depression... it must have been a tough time...
