I took a 2D image/photograph then used 3DS Max to create a 3D camera projection of that image.
Then I made a video in After Effects...

looks pretty good. the only dodgy part is the soft edges on the roof of the barn. it looks like a very digital blur, I'm not sure how to overcome that.

The rain was actually a simple layer added in After Effects. Probably takes 1 minute to set up :) They make is super easy. Now, making it respect 3D perspective/tracking is a bit more difficult.

To be honest, I just searched for a tutorial on here, went through it once and then made this.
The sad part is I spent about 10 times longer just putting the video together, then the actual scene.
Had to do the track justice though...

Just search for "Camera Mapping Tutorial" or "Camera Projection Tutorial" and add what ever 3D application you are using to the search. You can also try google, and there should be a bunch there too.
