Telarc to release cellist Zuill Baileys recording
Bach Cello Suites on February 2, 2010

Telarc will release Cellist Zuill Baileys Bach Suites for Solo Cello on February 2, 2010. All six suites were recorded in one week at the American Academy of Arts and Letters in New York City in December, 2008, following years of preparation by Mr. Bailey. I was unaware of the depths of the music as a young person, but came to realize that there are so many ways of interpreting Bach that it channels where a cellist is at that precise moment. It has become such a personal journey for me.
Zuill Bailey performs on a 1693 Matteo Gofriller Cello, formerly owned by Mischa Schneider of the Budapest String Quartet. The first surviving manuscripts of Bachs Cello Suites date from the middle and late 1720s. Bachs Suites disappeared from public view during the decades after his death. It was not until the early 20th century, when cellist Pablo Casals helped the works emerge from obscurity. My evolution with these pieces mirrors the way the Bach Suites were actually perceived over the centuries. This has been my greatest musical undertaking so far, Bailey said.

  • Sorry for criticizing your boyfriend.

  • @Thegreatbuk its easy to criticize..and in your case even easier when your a nobody jackass...

  • @PRODIGYat43 check your youtube inbox

  • @josemontenegro777 they were written FOR his wife--there is no way anyone other than bach could have written these...

  • just say'n... some people think the Cello Suites were actually writen by Bach's wife... in any case... you don't know how I relate, I learned the Prelude of the 1006, and I play it everyday (in classical guitar)

  • i got to meet zuill bailey at his house (he teaches occasionally at UTEP) very cool dude very down to earth :)

  • Saw him yesterday at the WFMT studios in Chicago. He played the first cello suite in its entirety, and the prelude, saraband & jig from three others. If you can see this guy live in a small venue, do it! And he can talk all he wants whenever he wants as far as I'm concerned.

  • He's much better than Yo-Yo Ma! Everyone else is just jealous of Zuill's ability!

  • Omjeremy your a fucking retard. He is amazing. The best cellist of this century
