Trinidad Carnival 2011 - Swanky Tuesday (Tribe vs Island Ppl)

Trinidad Carnival is the biggest festival in the region. This year it took place in March. Visited by many expats and other islanders; after several weeks of parties (aka fetes), calypso, soca, mas and pan competitions, the finale is the people taking over the streets to masquerade in their costumes on Monday and Tuesday.

Tuesday, Trinidad style, is parade of the bands. It's about glitz, costumes, fun ... Swanky! (dictionary meaning "stylishly luxurious and expensive"). Two of the bigger mas bands that parade the streets and take hours to cross the main stage on the route are Tribe and Island People. So who is having the most fun?

Watch out for Trinidad Carnival 2012 ... Economic downturn. Party upturn.

@olddocman Carnival TnT style is influenced by: religion - farewell to the flesh pre-lent, celebration of abolition of slavery, celebration of cultures and heritage (african, indian, European (mainly french) and amerindian (the original islanders). The two days are officially recognised as holidays but only through the will of the people.
