Critics of people like Mahalia and Aretha ought to try to accomplish what they did in one lifetime . . . even just a fraction. It's so easy to sit on the sidelines and whine, but you get out there in front of 10,000 people and deliver the Gospel. It looks easy, but it's not. It takes talent and courage.

@carmellebe: How can she take lessons from Elvis when he stole his little style from Blacks all his life. Aretha is the real thing and Elvis was a imitator...all he did was copy what he saw Blacks do and took credit for it. If Elvis and Aretha were on the same stage at the same time everyone would think he was a stage hand.

Uncompromising ... Aretha Franklin ... My teeth were cut by Ms Franklin's style. In my home, there were "standards." Aretha was one of those champions. The older I get ... the smarter my parents get. Thanks mom .. remain at peace ... thanks dad ... keep on keepin' on!!
