Dec. 3 - Hilary Snell, attorney and former managing partner at Varnum, Riddering, Schmidt & Howlett, spoke at the December meeting of the Hauenstein Center's Peter Cook Leadership Academy.
Mr. Snell received his Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan Law School and began practicing law in Grand Rapids in 1959. He gradauted Phi Beta Kappa, magna cum laude from Colgate University in New York. Mr. Snell is an avid fly fisherman with a family cabin on the Au Sable River in Grayling, Michigan. He is married and has two grown sons. Mr. Snell is actively involved in state affairs and serves on both private and public foundation boards. Areas of Emphasis Hilary Snell is a partner in the Estate Planning Practice Group. His practice focuses on the estate planning area, with particular emphasis on entire families and three-generational planning often coupled with a closely held business. In the past two decades, he served twice as the firm's Managing Partner. In this capacity, Hilary acted as the firm's CEO and chaired the Management Committee.
Mr. Snell has also been active in local, county, and national politics. He served Congressman Gerald R. Ford in Washington, D.C., and ran Ford's final congressional campaign in Grand Rapids before the congressman ascended to the vice presidency and presidency.
