  • so why don't you have the carpet on the bottom and the bedding on top? I live in Wisconsin and I use aspen bedding and it works fine. hold in heat good, and I use a 95wt bulb. no heat pad or anything. that to me would be extra, as in not needed. but thats just me I guess.. anyway nice cage. I like your setup!

  • @TheTurkeyhunter13 Still have the green carpet never thought of putting the substrate on top. Towel on top and a 75 watt incandescent bulb seems to do the trick fine. This year heating isn't a problem for me. Temps right where they are supposed to be for him. Thanks for the compliment on the set up.

  • Yeah the vid would help I have had that thermoter for about a year or so and the probe is on the bottom he can literally lay on it. I had the carpet last year and had zero problems at all. First time I switched was this past summer then as it got colder the problems started.

  • wire standard temp guages. Reason being is the wire ones wear out after a few months and will be off. Plus have the sensor @ the bottom/floor level of the tank since that is where your BP will be hanging out the most. If you want i can make a vid of my set up and if you have any questions just shoot me an email. Hope i helped!

  • The towel will help keep in heat and humidity. Cuz as we all know, Heat rises, and if you dont have a ceiling to keep the heat in, it will escape out and in the end your just wasting your energy bill lol. I got a towel on my two big BP's tanks and it works well. If you want I can make a vid for you on my setup. I have 1 glass tank and 1 acrylic tank (acrylic also keeps heat in better) and my other BP's are in a drawer system. 1 last thing make sure you use electronic temp guages and not the...

  • there are other things you should be using. Do you have a heating pad underneath the tank? Belly heating is actually better for tropical snake set ups vs. heat lamps. Reason being is the Heat lamp will suck out all the humidity vs a heating pad will not. I actually use both at the same time, but a low wattage bulb (40 watt). Another trick you can do is add a towel to the top of the tank, and cut out holes for your heat lamps (add a half inch so lamps dont touch the towel, fire hazard lol).....

  • Yeh glass does loose heat fast but there are a few kings you can make to keep it in. I actually recommend the Aspen bedding (or bark) over the carpet. It may seem like one is working better, but its actually because the carpet is absorbing the heat (think of a black top in mid summer) The aspen is the better insulator plus snakes feel more comfortable in aspen. I have tried both so got some practice w/ em both Plus.... (to be continued in another post)
