  • I have a problem. I have this model, and the absolute weight on vertex is always 1.0 no matter how I tried to change it to 0.1 , 0.2 , and any value less than 1.0

  • @Destronus, usually it is pilot error- can you try the same technique on a super-simple rig? Usually simplifying the equation makes the error obvious. Of course, sometimes models become corrupt and you have to delete the skin modifier and start over!

  • Hey Musa and Sacred,

Musa, that doesn't sound right, unless you have not deselected the previously selected verts. It's also always possible you have hit a bug in 3ds Max, see if there are any known issues or updates by going to autodesk support forums.

Sacred, that's a problem, if you make the legs too close - you're asking for problems - start a root pose position with the legs and arms extended a bit and you won't have so many issues.

  • Is there a reason why you didn't use Max's Biped for this character?

  • @intelsilver - I didn't build this character, someone sent it to me and I offered to help them rig it. It was quite a while ago, but the way I remember it, it was a biped character. However, the process of defining character mesh vertices to various bones would be the same, whether it was biped or bones. Generally if it is humanoid, biped is your best choice, whereas bones are more flexible in what you can do with them.

  • @TNAwweLOLROR - You spend $3000 or so, or you buy a student version for $100 or so. I suggest the student route, and highly recommend a class at a local college.

  • This video is popular on Moldova

  • @Destronus If the vert you’re trying to turn lower than 1.0 is only set to be controlled by one bone the reason you can’t turn down the absolute effect is there’s no other bones for max to turn the effect up on. Each vert has 1.0 effect in total across all the bones that control it, so if only one bone has an effect on the vert that bone’s absolute effect hast to be 1.

  • This video went viral on Bishkek

  • No matter how much i try to adjust the radial scale, it always effects the other leg by dragging the textures with it as well, am i missing something here, also, my legs were made close

  • Hey buddy great tutorial! I have a question to ask, I'm trying to use the abs. effect on two different joint and every time I put in 0 the other one doesn't work. For example on the shoulder blade I'll select the verticies and put abs effect 0, and that'll work, then the next joint below (the elbow) I'll put in abs effect 0, and then the shoulder blade will go back to it's original setup before I did the absolute 0. Is it possible to do abs effect on two joints next to each other?

  • thank u very much
