I found this radio on Craig's list. It's a 13-tube, Drake R4A Amateur Radio Receiver, serial #2413 -- Made in Miamisburg, Ohio. It was stored in a barn and was very dusty and dirty. I cleaned it up and recapped the power supply filters. I love the classic SSB audio you hear in these old tube receivers.

  • Hi... thanks for the comment. I am a long time ham... WW8X 73

  • Very nice looking and sounding radio. Did you find it local on Craigslist or somewhere else? What did you pay for it if I may ask?

I bought the receiver on Craig's List. I got a Drake T-4XB transmitter and this Drake R-4A receiver for $300. The transmitter needed serviced. This receiver did not. They were stored in a barn for years.

  • Not bought a communications receiver for years. The R4A was best Rx I ever owned. And so petite.

  • There are a couple of former Drake service teshs who still service these (and have hard to find parts) -- if you need reference - let us know.

Do you have an FCC amateur radio license?

  • Par Excellence! Outstanding receiver. Nice video.
