i'm from Singapore and my mother tongue is Teochew or chaozhou..When i was younger we were taught that our mother tongue is Mandarin until i went to Beijing and realised Mandarin is a dialect of the bejingers.. My god.. i am missing out my mother tongue Teochew all these years and besides the dialect, i also lost the culture behind these dialects..

Now i am quite fluent in Teochew ,my mother tongue..

Hello lihiong,if u go to Penang, Malaysia during the 7th month of Chinese calendar u can watch Teochew opera on stage, I think Pg n Johore r the only few places that stage opera is still taking place today.

It's okay, me too. I speak with my grandparents, and I'm trying my hardest to never forget.

I love Techew opera though, brings back the best memories of childhood and watching movies with my grandparents. Good times. I still show these videos to my grandparents, they enjoy it and think it's good I'm so into the culture.

I'm very fond of Chinese operas. But I

don't understand most of it because my Chinese is really weak. haha. My teochew is also very simple and I speak it only to my grandparents.

Teochew is my chinese dialect and my mum used to take me to see the opera in singapore. They used to perform on stage in the middle of the street when there is a special festival. This was about 40 years ago.This does not happen any more and I missed it. thanks for the video. It brings back a lot of fond memories
