Emir of Ilorin Pledges to Support Family Planning Advocacy in Nigeria
The Emir of Ilorin, Mai Martaba Alhaji Zulkalnani Ibrahim Gambari during a recent advocacy visit to his palace in Ilorin, by a team comprising of members from Nigerian Urban Reproductive Health Initiative (NURHI) and Development Communications network (DevComs), has revealed his readiness to support family planning advocacy in Kwara State and Nigeria as a whole.
He said he did not need too much persuasion or advocacy to start spreading the message about family planning as he had lost his wife in an attempt to give birth to a baby boy after seven attempts.
Meanwhile, the NURHI advocacy team was led by Ms. Susan Rich, who is the Senior Programme Adviser of the Bill and Melinda Gate Foundation. The NURHI project seeks to reduce barriers to family planning / child spacing use and increase the contraceptive prevalence rate in selected urban areas of Nigeria.
