My sugar glider passed away today on 5/23/2008 for unknown reasons... a heart wrenching moment for me as he laid lifeless on on my palm... i buried him in my flower garden in the mountains with candlelight vigil.

I named him Xiaomi (Chinese for "little honey"), and raised him from the time he was just a baby fur ball... Xiaomi was a spoiled brat at times, but always playfully active in an adorable way... if there was a spot he wanted to explore but couldn't, he would insist on going back eventually to satisfy his curiosity... the little fella was always in a competitive mood to play "who's quicker?" with me by wrestling with my fingers... Xiaomi also had an affinity for jumping and climbing onto my shoulders as his high lookout post.

Xiaomi was my loyal and affectionate friend for nearly two years... he brought me unconditional friendship, love, and happiness.

The night before Xiaomi left me, he was jumping on my shoulder and napping inside the hood of my sweatshirt... as usual, he tried to snuggle against my palm, signaling me to hold him against my stomach with one hand while gently massaging him with the other... he would stare blankly at me with his big round eyes as I embraced him... his eyelids slowly closed in the most peaceful way, completely entrusting himself to me as he transcended into his own utopian dream...

that was my final and everlasting memory of being with Xiaomi while he was still alive... my beloved friend will be sorely missed...

thank you all for the hundreds of warm comments...

for those thinking of taking on the responsibility of raising these exotic sugar gliders, it is highly recommended to buy a pair or more... when you're off to work/school, or sleeping during their playful nocturnal hours, at least they have another furry companion to keep company... unlike normal pets, like dogs and cats, these adorable suggies easily get lonely by themselves.

  • what a cute little thing. I'm so sorry for your loss. Losing a pet is an awful thing, like a piece of you has just been taken away and there's no way to get it back. I lost two of my dogs, one to old age and one to epilepsy when he was only 4 years old (regardless of the medication we had him on that had worked for two full years, one day he was just gone) it must be even worse when you have no idea why the poor little thing died. *hugs*

  • Like if you couldnt see the dislikes at first lol

  • @ShawnTebaldi Ok I'll try oh man I can't wait!!!!!!
