I honestly don't think that Brazilians in the industry take her seriously as a Bossa Nova artist. She was however marketable in Japan because of being a real Brazilian of Japanese origin.

@calor2002 Finally, finally, something that sounds and looks very plausible, if that's the way people shorten the name of this street (situated in Rio, I assume). Indeed, I found both occurring in the same article. Thank you. Do you know why the English version mentions Gamboa? Also, it says "walking by the docks where Donga made the samba" etc., but in this article it says that Rua Senador Pompeu is in the centre of Rio... which would not be "by the docks". Or would it? Best...

@unikatnoime As I'm not sure, but I think ’peo(peu)’ means Senador Pompeu. You can search with the keywords 'Donga'+'samba' +'Senador Pompeu' and can find some archives.
