  • I think they are both FANTASTIC!!!

Just say "I don'like it", but do not pretend to understand anything about voices especially in this very unique case of Francisco Araiza: how did he manage to sing Rossini so brilliantly with this heavy and dark voice? AMAZING!!! Just get it!!!

  • Besides showing how beautiful Verdi can be without screaming, pushing and pressing, Araiza`s first class interpretation demonstrates here a perfect line, a wide dynamic range, strong expression, richness of colors and a diameter that makes most so called Verdian voices to look rather small.

  • Love Zancanaro's voice! In various moments, he reminds me of such diverse baritones as Apollo Granforte, Richard Bonelli, Robert Merrill, & Ettore Bastianini. Gorgeous chiaroscuro color and firm, flexible line! Sorry I never heard him live.

Araiza sounds somewhat tired here. Heard him live in Mozart's SERAGLIO at the Met back in the '80's and liked him very much!

  • ---> andrecardi ... when I read your comment it reminds me of Beckmesser but in a negative sense because he was in fact a singing teacher which I doubt about you when I read that all what you hear in this duet is a wobble (which I can not hear) instead of noticing that Francisco Araiza is giving here a master class in interpretetion and vocal abilities. By the way listening to his performances ten years later his voice sounds rather stronger and richer despite some unqualified comments

  • Del Monaco was referring to Jose Carreras when he mentioned "Nemorino in Egitto". Francisco Araiza`s rendition here is excellent!!! and shows a wonderful lyric interpretation of this opera. I find this comment nothing more than hair splitting just trying to judge something which goes beyond your skills. As a singer and singing teacher you should be able to notice the extraordinary phrasing and dinamic which Araiza gives to this role but perhaps you are just "one of those"

  • when are you coming out of retirement

  • With Araiza! As what comprimario???

  • Jawohl

  • You are a nut case.

  • Thanks so much for posting this. I particularly like Zancanaro. Wonderful voice.
