I think some modern Chinese do like Cui Jian.

Though we have no appreciation of the politics of the 80s; we didn't live through the era filled with red flags; and we believe in money and materialism rather than communism or solidarity. But as a bitter love song, this is universal. The feeling of having nothing at all 一无所有, and struggling for a better future is just as relevant to today's youth as it was to you back in the 80s, even if the context has changed.
