Especially in the soviet zone, the later GDR, also goods were removed from the current production that followed again later as well as prisoners of war compensated for those debts, working for nothing for years. The last 10 000 German PoW left Russia towards Germany in 1955 thanks to Adenauer.
It is said by Western Allies they got compensation (the way described) of 500 million US-Dollar. The Soviet Union of 15 billion US-Dollar! Debts officially endet in 1953/54.

Well, first of all Germany payed its last part of debts of World War I (!) on the Day of German Unity, 3rd of October, in 2010 - 200 million Euro!
After WWII, this was different, Germany was occupied: All of Germany's foreign property was confiscated, money and also the whole German merchant fleet. Also all German patents were confiscated. But most compensation was gained by dismantlement of industry inside Germany. (next ->)
