Sherlock Holmes plays the violin for the woman he admires, but he could never meet as himself.

I think Laith Al-Deen's song Dein Lied (Your Song) matches very well to this theme, so I tried to translate the lyrics into English.

A scandal in Bohemia is one of my favourites. The misfortune of Holmes, after having been deceived by an 'inferior sex', is comical, but also beautiful. The song's mood, for me, does not really correspond with the quaint life of Holmes; but a lovely idea, regardless.

Yes, I agree. It's a really nice story, quite different from the others as it shows Holmes in a tricky, uncommon situation. But... oh well,... why not playing around with romance a little? ;)

@catherinespark Hey, I get that side of it. I often am pleased when I can make connections to characters as well. We all want to share something in common with them because they mean a lot to us.

@Sshelly34213 Sounds like the best way to look at it. I have noticed that trying to argue 'diagnoses' like that seriously, rather than just observing and discussing, can almost lead to possessiveness and defensiveness from the parties arguing the point. As an Aspie myself it's fun to see a character who appears to display some similarities, but...well...for whatever reason (if any) he's just Holmes and is the way he is!

@Sshelly34213 Thanks for discussing with me - discussing such points is always interesting to me and I see your points. I too get annoyed when people insist on neurological and sexuality 'diagnoses' for him. I suppose we will just have to agree to disagree on some matters of opinion! I personally think Holmes has many of the traits but, as you say, we can't know, and as he says in the book when he puts forward an idea that cannot be verified as certain, 'well well, I don't insist upon it'!

@catherinespark Anyway, the idea of Holmes having Asperger's syndrome is a claim, purely that. So why should I believe a claim someone just made up one day on their day off? Literary hacks say that about every character who is intelligent, logical, and, cold. Oh, that and he's gay. It's always at the same time.

I choose to see it as a claim that cannot be backed up by anything other than circumstantial evidence.

@catherinespark Well...again, there is no lack of emotion because we're not in his head...

Other than that...there's not much else we can deduce. We don't KNOW that he sees everything in a logical manner, only that he comes off as someone who does.

It's possible to have all of those traits and not have asperger's syndrome, HSP have hyper sensitivity and they're aspies. I eat 1 meal a day and sleep very irregularly. When you don't have a normal routine, that happens.

@catherinespark Yes but cold does not necessarily make him an aspie. He's just cold...lol there are tons of characters in literature that are just cold people. There is a bit of intrigue there because we see Holmes as purely logical. There really is no reason for Holmes to be otherwise, there are no real tragic occasions that Holmes and Watson have shared together. So what need was there to come off otherwise?
