GRAFFITI NEW YORK 80's / Graffiti New York 80's at the Galerie Jérôme de Noirmont in Paris from May 27 to July 20, 2011 will present a collection of works by the pioneers of this art movement that gathered momentum in the streets of New York at the beginning of the 70s to become a worldwide phenomenon in the 80s. More than 10 years after the anniversary retrospectives dedicated to Andy Warhol (1996/1997), Jean-Michel Basquiat (1998), and Keith Haring (1999) whose Estate we represent in France, the gallery is now showcasing an art movement that fed into the creative exuberance of New York in the 1980s: the graffiti movement and its precursors.

Twenty or so pieces, some of which have never been exhibited, will illustrate the pioneering styles of 11 leading New York graffiti artists:

A-ONE
Jean-Michel BASQUIAT
BLADE
Bill BLAST
CRASH
DONDI WHITE
FAB 5 FREDDY
FUTURA 2000
Keith HARING
RAMMELLZEE
TOXIC

and an unseen collaboration by LA II, Kenny SCHARF, Jean-Michel BASQUIAT and FAB 5 FREDDY...

  • Thanks for posting this - very cool! Pretty sure that the painting at 2:06 is by the late, great Rammellzee

  • @beatnuts1uk actually there is two Rammellzee, at 2:06 like you said and also at 1:28 ..

  • @rootsmanuvaa Interesting! Thanks! I wrongly thought that the one at 1:28 was done by A-One or Toxic as they were students of Rammellzee and whilst it has some obvious Rammellzee elements it also has some things that I have not seen Rammellzee do before. I definitely need to attend this exhibition before the end of July!

  • @beatnuts1uk ye, when i first saw it, i wonder who it was, it reminds me of coco144 or Mico , but i asked the owner of the gallery and he told me it was a ZEE' canvas,, with symbol like eternity that are proper to his element.. It was the first time,i saw Rammellzee using that style...

  • ALL of these are beautiful pieces! truely amazing independent ART! that piece done be the late great RAMMΣLLZΣΣ at 2:06 is simply incredible! never seen him approach that style but its simply mindblowing! makes me scratch my brain at was what left behind in his hidden vault up there in his mind and home that will never see the day of light...and still even apart of me thinks this incredible artist will never ever truely be recognized or given credit for his hard work done to this planet.

    RIP

  • @rootsmanuvaa many thanks! It's very interesting. I am definitely no Rammellzee expert but I have not seen him use this style before. I am the lucky owner of a Rammellzee painting on board from 1983 and was even luckier to meet the great man back in 2006. It's a real shame (and a disgrace!) that ZEE didn't get the recognition he deserved. But it's great to see that its starting to happen. Thanks again!
