A series of church window pictures set to Alfred Newman's beautiful score for the film "The Greatest Story Ever Told."

Alfred Newman (March 17, 1900 February 17, 1970) was a major American composer of music for films.
He received 45 Academy Award nominations making him the second most nominated person in the history of the Academy Awards, tied with John Williams, and behind Walt Disney (Newman's scores for The Hurricane and The Prisoner of Zenda were also nominated at a time when composers were not eligible to be nominated in the score category). He won the Oscar 9 times; in 1940 he was nominated for 4 different films. Between 1938 and 1957, he was nominated twenty years in a row. - Wikipedia

  • It does not make any difference to me, but was Alfred Newman Jewish? So many of the grand Hollywood compsers were and I was just wondering..

  • @ZeekWolfe1

Yes. Unlike the other greats, he was born in the USA. Ironically, 'American sounding' film music was largely written by composers born abroad.

  • Jesus of Nazareth is the name of the selection. I have added the title as an annotation.

  • my church used this song in our Easter play

  • @crazyjosiah

I think Newman would have been delighted.

  • i've got goosebumps all over. tears in my eyes.

  • @ldaccardi Just another example of the inspiring and purifying power of music. Peace.

  • Newman was - by his own admission, I think - heavily inspired by Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings.

  • No question about it. But then, the films of today don't exactly inspire any composer to come up with anything save noise.

  • The music and video is magnificent!

  • There are many great things about this underrated classic. Number one I think is the soundtrack.

  • This music is not from Jesus of Nazareth. It is from The Greatest Story Ever Told, from the book of the same name by Fulton Oursler.

  • Von Sydow had a fatherly figure of Christ in this movie just like HB Warner did in his portrayal of Christ...

  • This is such a beautiful soundtrack! Jesus as our saviour!
